High up in Gouverneur, with a sweeping view of St. Barth’s green hills and the blue Caribbean Sea, Villa Jasmine (JAM) offers a remarkable architectural design and impressive levels of luxury. The glass walls of the main living area slide completely out of sight, allowing you to make most of the island life. Wide-open, breezy spaces blend seamlessly into the terrace and pool on one side and the landscaped garden on the other, and there are panoramic views down both sides of the hill. And when you pull your eye away from the blue skies and shimmering sea, it will come to rest on understated, pleasing details that add up to a whole that’s as seductive as the flower for which the villa takes its name.

A remarkable rental property on its own, Villa Jasmine (JAM) can also be expanded into luxurious compound for larger vacation gatherings. It is situated very close to Villa Rose (OSE) and Villa Olive (OLI), with which it shares its graceful design sensibility. The villas boast a collection of stylish and comfortable designer furniture. The feeling in Villa Jasmine is undeniably of the sea, with natural, organic elements such as seashells and starfish serving as decorative objects. But the accommodations are refreshingly free of Caribbean clichés, and are comfortable and alluring without trying to hard.

The unusual layout makes this villa especially appealing to families with adult children or friends traveling together who particularly enjoy their privacy—as well as their time spent enjoying one another’s company. The main complex includes twin air-conditioned pavilions on either side of a covered outdoor living area with plenty of seating. One of these contains a welcoming living area with air-conditioning as well as glass doors on all sides, and the other a professional kitchen with a large breakfast table, which is also air-conditioned. Both of them open onto a deck with daybeds and a stunning 20-meter infinity pool on one side, and a second outdoor area with a dining table next to a waterfall that cascades down an artisan-crafted stone wall on the other.

On either side of the pool deck are two ocean-view bedrooms, each with a king bed and a rain head shower that opens to the outdoors. The two remaining bedrooms are well separated from the heart of the action, down a hill that gives them excellent privacy. They’re outfitted like the ones above, with the addition of their own plunge pools. There is also a well-equipped TV and entertaining area and while the short walk back up the hill could be considered part of a workout, most of the time guests will want to drive between the two parts of the villa, as the grade is steep.
